December 2019

We are back on track, presenting this issue on the 5th of the month.

We wish you well as you are ringing out 2019 and ringing in the New Year 2020. May you be blessed with clarity of vision, peace of mind and dynamism in action.

Swāmi Sivānanda, who had initiated Swāmi Chinmayānanda into sannyāsa, is the guest writer this time. Using time-tested, traditional language, the king-maker among sannyāsis exhorts us to turn towards spiritual excellence. The quote of the issue – by Vivekānanda – resonates with this article, asking us to give one life to God and see!

The AUPA project took off with inspiration from Late Dr Sid Gautam, and we continue to remember his encouraging words and actions. Please read what he said in Bengaluru in 2014 under Remembering Dr G.

Regular features like Learn this Word, Editorial and Indirāji contributes from USA are sure to interest you.

Lots of regards and best wishes,

Swāmi Chidānanda and Team AUPA

November 2019

Dear friends,

With apologies for the delay, we present before you the November 2019 issue of AUPA, the e-newsletter that has Upanishads as the central theme.

Please read the editorial where the Editor (Swami Chidananda) has expressed the opinion: attention is spirituality, mechanical living is unspiritual.

As this issue reaches the hands of the reader, in the West, it is Gurpurab – the auspicious day marking Guru Nanak Dev’s birthday – as the curtain came down in India. We pay obeisance to the great luminary on the religious firmament. It is 550 years since he appeared on the earth. (See the last page)

We introduce you to a brilliant young man – Akilesh Ayyar – who writes with grace and brilliance onadvaita. Read (under Guest Article) an excerpt from his book How to Find What Isn’t Lost!

We trust you the readers will enjoy every bit of this issue too, and will feel free to express your feedback.

With lots of best wishes,

Swami Chidananda and Team AUPA

Dear friends,

Two pieces – Moderation is a Must and Way to Calm Your Mind – in this issue take you directly to Upanishad mantras, with insights into application in daily life. We are happy to present this compilation before you, along with greetings on the auspicious occasions of Dussehra, Diwali and Bhai Dooj. Khalil Gibran’s insightful words on ‘fear’ should embolden you to take the leap, giving up undue hesitation, in the matter of spiritual exploration. I am writing these words soon after delivering a talk on meditation in Fayetteville, where late Dr Sid Gautm lived for nearly 50 years. An enthusiastic audience of about 45 men and women responded enthusiastically to all that I had to say on P.U.T. (purify using passage, unify using mantra and transcend through passive observation), three approaches to meditation.

We trust you will enjoy this issue with all its regular features.

Dear Friends,
As we complete 4 years (48 issues), it gives us immense pleasure to say this work of publishing this e-newsletter AUPA has been truly rewarding. The Upanishads are indeed a mine of wisdom, strength and positive energy.

Swamiji continues his memoir of Dr Siddhartha Gautam, and supplies a few other regular features too – like the Editorial, Learn this Word etc.

Eknath Easwaran’s tips on handling desire, which all spiritual traditions regard as a mighty challenge, have the freshness of the morning breeze as he restates ancient wisdom.

Indira ji continues to share her experience in North Carolina of the “Happiness Yoga” sessions held every month, which Sid Gautam had started years ago.

We are confident you will appreciate the contents this time too. Feel free, however, to express any constructive criticism or suggestions for feedback.
