Leave it like a snake discards its old skin

Prashnopanishad supplies to us an amazing illustration.
yathā pādodaras-tvachā vinirmuchyate
evam ha vai sah papmanā vinirmuktah
Prashna Upanishad, 5.5
[He who meditates on Om casts off all sin just as a snake gets freed from its old skin and shines with a new one.]
Along with other implications, the above shows to us that the essence of spirituality is to let go of sinful ways and begin afresh with virtuous living. Our ways change, and we are blessed with the freedom from the effects of our past mistakes. Even if the results of our old wrongs come up, we are empowered by spirituality to face them and take them in our stride.
